Cafe Training Programme Volunteer

Role outline
Café from Crisis offers training opportunities to Crisis clients either in the kitchen or front of house, equipping them for future opportunities or employment. Through technical training such as kitchen craft and barista skills, clients can gain qualifications and confidence in a public-facing environment where they are supported on their journey out of homelessness.
Training kicks off with Behind the Scenes Day, a 4-hour taster session, so that prospective trainees can meet the team and get an understanding of the training available. The afternoon involves spending a few hours in a classroom going through a workbook, and then moving to the café for a practical activity. This is an accredited one-day course, called ‘Preparation for Work Experience’, which needs a volunteer to offer extra help in the classroom to support learners with any additional needs. The session is delivered by an experienced member of the Café team, and having an extra pair of hands is invaluable to ensure the success of all learners.

Core tasks and what you will achieve
Assisting the trainer in delivering high quality sessions and keeping clients focussed, taking direction from the trainer on how best to support the session
Providing support to individual members within the group to help them achieve their learning objectives, encouraging them to develop their skills and confidence
Supporting the trainer with preparation of classroom resources and packing away at the end of sessions
Assisting clients with the completion of any relevant paperwork, where requested by the trainer or when support needs are apparent
When required, checking workbooks to ensure relevant evidence is captured
