Become a Health Champion 'Buddy' for Oxford: empower local people to take action to improve their own health.

OxFed is has created an opportunity for Oxford based residents to support their community and the 20 GP Practices that we work with. The opportunity involves you being a 'Buddy' to someone and to support them to get access to a variety of support services they need.

The role will include proving companionship to some of the isolated and lonely people withing the community to support people with Issues like help with getting a job, housing, debt management and social contact. Help with these things is often available through local authorities, charities and local community organisations, but few patients or GP staff know about the full range of support available.

The role involves supporting the Social Prescribing team (Practice Care Navigators) who will meet patients and identify what local support or activity is of interest to them. Then that's where you come in! patients often feel anxious, shy or nervous about doing something new. You will support them to get started on their journey by either providing companionship within their place of residence (particularly the elderly), discussing and providing verbal support to encourage them to take action or offer to accompany patients to their hospital or activities.
