Community Connect Volunteers needed for Social Prescribing Project.

This is a varied and flexible volunteering opportunity for someone who enjoys helping people. We are looking for Community Connectors to join our team to help deliver our new and exciting Social Prescribing project across Cherwell and West Oxfordshire. This project is jointly run by Citizens Advice North Oxon & South Northants (CANOSN) and Citizens Advice West Oxfordshire (CAWA).

What is social prescribing?

Social Prescribing is a way in which people who are socially isolated and inactive can get access to a variety of support services they need. We introduce you to local services that can help with:

•Social connections
•Money and budgeting
•Healthy lifestyle
•Skills and confidence

Local help is often available through local authorities, charities and local community organisations, but few patients or GP staff know about the full range of support available. Social Prescribing means that people can build their support links by working with a Community Navigator who does know, or who has expertise in finding out, what is available. Following a referral from the GP, together with the Community Navigator, people can discuss their problems and identify the support that they need to manage their own health and wellbeing more effectively and meet their own personal goals.

This volunteering role involves supporting the Community Connect team who will meet patients and identify what local support or activity is of interest to them. You will be a supportive person to someone that may feel anxious or unmotivated to attend the activity, group or course.

The volunteering times vary and you can volunteer as much or as little as you like.

For this role, you will be required to have an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check. There is no charge for this check and we will fully assist you with this process.
